Nude photography is a genre most photographers dabble in every now and again. I've often thought of nude photography as a natural extension of portraiture; if you're going to spend so much time on trying to capture the 'essence' of who somebody is, in some cases shedding any barriers between the model and the camera such as clothes is the next logical step. One thing that can be a challenge, is to translate portraiture techniques into nudes.
Nude Photography can be quite a divisive subject to discuss in the photography world. There are many that see it as a perfectly legitimate art form that can empower people and question perceptions of beauty. At the same time, there is another argument that it is exploitative, degrading and impossible to look at any differently than pornography.

The earliest versions of art that depicted a nude human body had as a theme the representation of heroes, Gods, mythical figures and generally characters intended to surpass the common aspects of human dimension. They were featuring an ideal form of the human body. The real subject was not a disclosure or an awareness of nakedness but rather a transformation into a symbolic, noble and ideal form.
