The Philadelphia Lesbian and Gay Task Force was created in to promote institutional reform in law, government, education and mass media principally within Pennsylvania. Through the processes of research, public policy advocacy, and community organizing strategies the Task Force sought to create links with other minority populations towards wide ranging public interest projects to reach common goals. Task Force organizing efforts with various civil rights initiatives resulted in the establishment of Philadelphia local laws and Pennsylvania statewide executive policies to prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations as well as the establishing policies to prohibit discrimination in employment and educational programs for Lesbians and Gays.
Close to 50 people gathered in downtown Elizabethtown Thursday in a protest against the Star Barn, a Lancaster County venue that does not allow same-sex couples to have weddings at the facility. Owner David Abel says they go against his religious convictions, which hold that marriage is between a man and a woman. Lancaster Stands Up, an anti-discrimination group, organized the event.

Elizabethtown -- The Star Barn event venue in Elizabethtown is the focus of protests after someone pointed out on social media that its owners don't allow same-sex couples to get married there. Community advocacy group Lancaster Stands Up had planned to protest at the Star Barn during a meeting of the tourism group, Discover Lancaster. However, Discover Lancaster canceled its meeting, citing some members' concern over the policyand the venue was closed for the day. The protest brings to Lancaster County a clash between equality rights advocates and religious business owners that has played out across the country.
The rally was originally supposed to be held ahead of the annual meeting for the group Discover Lancaster but that event is no longer happening. The owner of the Star Barn in West Donegal Township says he is standing by his religious beliefs and if the one being discriminated against. Until Wednesday, Discover Lancaster was not one of them.

The main marketing group for Lancaster County's tourism industry is sticking by its decision to hold a key meeting at Star Barn Village in Elizabethtown, despite concerns being raised about its policy on same-sex weddings. That section of the statement has been drawing lots of attention on social media, and it brought Mio Studio co-owner and Discover Lancaster partner Erica Millner to action when she received her invitation to the business event last month. Discover Lancaster is the main tourism organization in Lancaster County.
