Queer literature in the Indian subcontinent goes back a long way, as established by scholars Ruth Vanita and Saleem Kidwai, who collected over 2, years of Indian writing on same-sex love and desire drawn from Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim and modern fictional traditions, in their seminal book, Same-Sex Love in India.
